JioHotstar, India's largest streaming platform, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 200 million paid subscribers, making it the world's third-largest video streaming service after Netflix and Prime Video. This surge has been largely driven by its multi-language live coverage of the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to a Bloomberg report citing a senior executive. Vice Chairman of JioStar, Mr. Uday Shankar, a joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and Walt Disney Co, highlighted the platform's rapid growth as "pretty satisfying." JioHotstar's success is attributed to its affordable pricing and marquee sports content, which have attracted a large user base primarily from India.

JioHotstar faces stiff competition from Netflix and Prime Video in the highly competitive OTT market. While Netflix is investing heavily in Indian original content, Prime Video has expanded its content partnerships to include platforms like Apple TV+ and Crunchyroll. JioHotstar's broader goal is to reach every potential streaming viewer in the country, emphasizing its aggressive push to expand its reach and content offerings.
