KPI Green Energy has started the generation and supply of power from its 200 MW AC/240 MW DC grid-connected solar project at Khavda, Gujarat. The project, awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) through a competitive bid, has been successfully synchronized with the grid and started supplying power into the Gujarat grid through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This should ensure stable and predictable cash flows for the company. As one of the first solar projects to be commissioned in the 1.8 GW GSECL Solar Park (South Block) at Khavda, the project will help enhance Gujarat’s commitment to increased use of renewable energy and a stable power grid. The commercial operation of the project is an important milestone in KPI Green Energy’s strategy to expand its Independent Power Producer business and increase its presence in utility-scale solar and hybrid projects in India.
With the start of power generation, the project is expected to contribute to KPI Green Energy’s bottom line consistently, ensuring the long-term financial viability of the company through offtake agreements. The decision to operationalize the large-scale solar project is a testament to the growing importance of capacity additions in the renewable energy sector in India, meeting the country’s overall objective of a cleaner environment and lower dependence on fossil fuels.
