L&T Construction to build a cricket stadium in Varanasi with a 30,000 capacity

On August 14, 2023, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction announced that its buildings and factories (B&F) business has received significant orders in India and Bangladesh between the range of Rs. 1,000-2,500 crore (US$ 120.5-301.3 million).

According to the company's news release, the B&F Business has received a contract from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) for the construction of a cricket stadium at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on a design-and-build turnkey basis.

The stadium, which will be built on 30.67 acres, will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. The main ground, as per the International Cricket Council (ICC) specifications, a display scoreboard, floodlights, corporate boxes, VIP lounges, office spaces, broadcasting booths, press conference spaces, cooking and dining areas, and practice ground, are all included in the scope.

Furthermore, as per the press release, B&F business has received another order from the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority to build high-tech IT parks throughout the districts of Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Sylhet in Bangladesh. The main scope of work for the project entails the construction of seven-story structural steel buildings with a BUA of 1.2 million square feet, including civil, finish, façade, and electromechanical works with a LEED gold rating, at eight different locations. The scope also includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lift, electrical, fire-fighting system, public health engineering, and networking and security system, among others.
