L&T Energy GreenTech (LTEG), a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T, will build India’s largest green hydrogen facility at Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL’s) Panipat refinery in Haryana. Announced in a company filing, the project will operate on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, supplying 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to IOCL for 25 years. The initiative is aligned with the Centre’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and is designed to decarbonise IOCL’s refinery operations. The plant will operate round the clock using renewable power and feature high-pressure alkaline electrolysers manufactured by L&T Electrolysers Ltd at its Hazira facility in Gujarat.
According to Deputy Managing Director and President of L&T, Mr. Subramaniam Sarma, the project reinforces the company’s strategic focus on clean energy and affirms its role as a first mover in India’s green hydrogen space. The Panipat plant will serve as a benchmark for cleaner industrial processes, demonstrating India’s commitment to energy transition. Head of Green Manufacturing & Development at L&T, Mr. Derek Shah, stated that the project exemplifies the company’s end-to-end green energy capabilities, combining indigenous manufacturing with advanced technology. He emphasised that the facility would contribute to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission through the deployment of locally produced electrolysers and high-efficiency, zero-emission solutions. The project is a significant step towards building a self-reliant and low-carbon industrial ecosystem in India.
