Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has achieved another milestone by winning a large contract to build transport infrastructure in Dubai, UAE; thus, further establishing itself as a major engineering and construction player within the Middle East. This “important” contract is valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore (US$ 110.20 million to US$ 275.50 million). The project was given to L&T's transportation infrastructure vertical by the UAE government and forms part of the first stage of an extensive roadway development plan to modernize the urban public transportation system in Dubai.
The entire Latifa Bint Hamdan Street upgrade project will take 36 months and entails the complete reconstruction of the existing road corridor, which extends from Emirates Road (E611) to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). Work will include redefining the existing two-lane dual carriageway into a four-lane dual carriageway, with two lanes in each direction. These road changes will greatly increase capacity on an important arterial road through the city and help alleviate some of the problems associated with increased levels of congestion, as well as improve the overall flow of all types of vehicles along this important route. L&T's track record of solid technical capabilities and ability to complete complex infrastructure projects on a global scale further confirms its success in the Middle East.
