Maharashtra, UP, and Delhi are the top start-up hubs, saw the highest registrations: Government data

According to the data provided by Mr. Som Parkash, Minister of State in the Commerce Ministry, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi were the top three hubs of start-ups in terms of registration in 2022. Maharashtra had 4,801 registrations, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 2,572, and Delhi with 2,567 registrations. Data shows that 26,522 new start-ups were registered in 2022 under the government's Start-up India initiative, an increase of 32.6% from 19,989 startups registered in 2021.

 As per the Start-up India data, 99,380 start-ups have been officially recognised in India, including 3,579 that have received funding from SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India) Funds of Funds.

In January 2016, Startup India was unveiled, which consists of 19 action items covering areas like simplification and handholding, funding support and incentives, and industry-academia partnership and incubation.

Other states including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal also witnessed growth in their startup base last year.
