Mahindra Pumps US$ 23.6 Million Into Chennai R&D Centre

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is investing Rs. 196 crore (US$ 23.6 million) in the Chennai Research & Development Centre to further improve the company's global engineering network and accelerate product innovation. This investment will expand the facility's capacity for vehicle design, testing, and advanced engineering with a focus on future mobility technology (i.e., electrification, next-generation powertrains, and connected systems). The upgraded facilities and talent pool will aid in faster product development cycles and ultimately lead to higher-quality products with greater competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
Mahindra's investment is part of its strategic focus on building up its research and technology base to satisfy changing customer demands and changing regulations. Mahindra’s investment links with the global trend toward sustainability and the increased number of Electric Vehicles (EVs) that are helping the established car manufacturers take the lead in the development of new forms of mobility. Several industry analysts indicated that Mahindra's ability to improve its product development timelines with major investments into R&D would also give it a competitive advantage in local content by allowing Mahindra to provide its customers additional item features that are consistent with the new expectations of their customers.
