In collaboration with Microsoft India, Maruti Suzuki has developed smartphone-based technology to assess applicants seeking a driver's licence. Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, stated that the technology-HAMS (Harnessing Automobile for Safety)-was deployed at the Automated Driving Test Centre (ADTC), Dehradun, in association with the Uttarakhand Government Transport Department.

The technology is being jointly developed and tested by the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), promoted by Maruti Suzuki, and Microsoft Research India, it added.

MSI Executive Advisor, Mr. Ajay Kumar Tomer said, "HAMS, developed in partnership with Microsoft Research India, is an important tool to modernise the driving license test in our country. Starting with ADTC Dehradun, this technology will be introduced in more centres across several states".
