Maruti Suzuki India commissions 300 kW Green Hydrogen (GH2) electrolyzer plant

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commissioned a 300-kW Green Hydrogen (GH2) electrolyzer plant as a pilot project at its Manesar facility. The project is aimed at maximising the utilisation of solar energy generated at the facility. Green hydrogen produced at the plant will be blended with natural gas and used as process fuel in manufacturing operations. The initiative is part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its manufacturing operations through multiple renewable energy solutions, including solar power plants, renewable energy procurement from government sources and power purchase agreements with third-party providers for solar and wind-based energy. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, said the pilot project builds on the company’s efforts to expand solar power, biogas and battery energy storage systems and is aligned with the Government of India’s Green Hydrogen Mission.
Maruti Suzuki is also advancing other clean energy initiatives across its manufacturing facilities. The company is in the advanced stage of setting up a 10 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) biogas plant at its Kharkhoda facility, which is expected to be commissioned within FY27. It has also commissioned a 1 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Kharkhoda facility and started integrating Compressed Biogas (CBG) as process fuel. The company has approved four CBG projects and earmarked a budget of Rs. 561 crore (US$ 59.07 million) for them. Its parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), has partnered with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and dairy industry unions to establish 10 biogas plants across India, of which three are already operational in Gujarat. These initiatives reflect Maruti Suzuki’s focus on diversifying renewable energy solutions and reducing emissions from its manufacturing operations.
