Maruti Suzuki to Invest US$ 97 Million by FY31 to Accelerate Green Energy Transition

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced plans to invest more than Rs. 925 crore (US$ 97.15 million) by FY31 to expand its renewable energy footprint and support sustainable manufacturing operations. The company aims to increase its solar power generation capacity to 319 MWp by FY31, significantly strengthening the use of clean energy across its production facilities. As part of this initiative, Maruti Suzuki has already commissioned a 20 MWp solar project at its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana and added another 10 MWp of solar capacity at its Manesar plant. The investment forms part of the company’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, lower carbon emissions and improve operational sustainability. The expansion is aligned with both the Government of India’s renewable energy objectives and Suzuki Motor Corporation’s long-term environmental vision, reflecting the growing integration of clean energy solutions within the automotive manufacturing sector.

The company expects renewable sources to account for approximately 85% of its total electricity consumption by FY31, supported by a combination of captive solar generation and the procurement of green power from state electricity utilities. The initiative comes as Maruti Suzuki continues to expand its manufacturing capacity and vehicle production, making energy efficiency and sustainability increasingly important components of its growth strategy. The investment also builds on earlier renewable energy programmes, including solar and biogas projects introduced across its facilities in recent years. By scaling up renewable energy usage, the company aims to strengthen energy security, reduce operating costs over the long term and contribute to India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy. The planned expansion highlights the increasing role of renewable energy adoption in industrial operations and reinforces the automotive sector’s contribution to the country’s sustainability and climate goals.
