City Beauty Competition aims to encourage and recognize the transformational efforts made by the cities and wards in India towards creating beautiful, innovative, and inclusive public spaces.
Mr. Hardeep S. Puri reminded everyone of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s view of embracing urbanization. He further added that various schemes such as Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and SBM 2.0 have been launched and there has been an increase in the amount of waste processing and management. India has embarked on the most ambitious plan of urban rejuvenation undertaken anywhere across the world, he further added.
In accordance with the ‘City Finance Rankings, 2022’, rankings aim to motivate city/state officials and decision-makers to implement municipal finance reforms and the participating ULBs will be evaluated based on 15 indicators across the three financial parameters. All 4,500+ cities/ULBs across all states/Union Territories would be encouraged to participate in this initiative. On the other hand, under ‘City Beauty Competition’, wards and public places of cities would be evaluated against five broad categories - accessibility, amenities, activities, aesthetics, and ecology.
