Ministry of MSME’s TEAM Initiative Empowering Small Businesses across India through Digital Commerce Enablement

India is accelerating the digital transformation of its micro and small enterprises through the Ministry of MSME’s Trade Enablement and Access to Market (TEAM) Initiative, a key sub-scheme under the World Bank-supported Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Programme. Implemented by the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), the initiative is enabling small businesses to integrate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) ecosystem through end-to-end e-commerce support. The programme is focused on empowering artisans, home-based entrepreneurs, local manufacturers and small retailers by assisting them with onboarding, cataloguing, packaging, logistics and customer management. By reducing entry barriers and lowering commission costs, the initiative aims to promote digitally inclusive growth and expand market access for enterprises across India.

The initiative has already demonstrated significant impact in geographically remote regions. Baba Sankari Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, specialising in premium walnuts, improved its sales outreach within two months of onboarding under TEAM and processed more than 100 orders from customers across India. Similarly, Kanglei Foods, based in Bishnupur, Manipur, expanded its customer base beyond the North-East through logistics support and doorstep shipment services facilitated under the initiative. The enterprise now receives regular monthly orders from multiple states, reflecting how digital commerce is helping rural and remote businesses improve visibility, income generation and nationwide market connectivity.
