MoHUA’s mega campaign ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ has been launched

The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Mr. Hardeep S. Puri, launched the MoHUA's massive "Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar" campaign on May 15, 2023.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the programme "Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar" to promote the RRRs (3Rs) of waste management: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Citizens of urban India are actively renovating used objects for reuse, embracing the principles of creating "wealth" from the trash in growing numbers. This is boosting the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0's (SBM-U) total zero-waste ecosystem.

The 3Rs are the foundation of "Waste to Wealth," and they have enabled a wide range of entrepreneurs, startups, self-help groups, craftspeople, and recyclers to recycle waste into a variety of products. The Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, led by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, further promotes both individual and group action in this direction. Mission LiFE seeks to save the environment, promote pro-earth conduct that can be established through human action in daily life, and conserve the ecosystem.

This national campaign intends to draw attention to communities' establishment of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centres," one-stop collection locations, where residents may donate clothing, shoes, used plastic, old books, toys, and other items to be recycled or reused. The three-week campaign will support Mission LiFE's goal of taking collective action for the protection and conservation of the environment by establishing sustainable daily habits and will enhance citizens' resolve under SBM-U 2.0 to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The RRR Centres, which are scheduled to be launched on May 20, 2023, will serve as a one-stop solution for residents, institutions, commercial businesses, etc. to deposit unneeded or used plastic products, garments, shoes, footwear, books, and toys. After collection, these objects will be distributed to other stakeholders for refurbishment for reuse or for the creation of new products, effectively advancing the government's objective of the circular economy.
