The Government of India has successfully trained over 32,000 beneficiaries through the SwaYaan scheme, which is a capacity-building programme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) that aims to strengthen the drone ecosystem in the country. The scheme is designed to build capabilities in drone technology through structured training initiatives in academic institutions and training centres. The programme supports emerging sectors such as agriculture, logistics, and disaster management, where drone usage is expanding rapidly. It is also a contribution towards the overall goal of developing India as a drone innovation hub.
The implementation of the SwaYaan programme is being carried out with the support of major organizations. This will allow the participants to gain hands-on experience and knowledge regarding drones. The programme is also a step towards the government’s vision of promoting the manufacture and use of indigenous products and technologies through its initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India. The use of drones is expected to bring efficiency and reduce costs in various sectors. The availability of many trained professionals will further enhance the preparedness of the country to take advantage of the use of UAS and meet the requirements of the industry. The programme is also expected to provide jobs and enhance innovation in emerging areas of technology, thus contributing to the growth of the nation.
