Mr. Piyush Goyal, minister for consumer affairs, food, and public distribution, directed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to establish additional procurement centres covering nearly all of Uttar Pradesh's revenue districts so that farmers have the choice of selling their goods to the FCI or to any other agency.

He asked the FCI officials to employ cutting-edge technology in foodgrain management and quality control to increase transparency and reduce the need for human interaction.

Mr Piyush Goyal invited all the officers to submit their ideas for improving the FCI's operation, asking them to draw on their knowledge of foodgrain management to offer better godown designs that would allow for greater capacity in confined spaces.

While examining the state's storage capacities, he further stated that all of the godowns of FCI, both owned and hired, should be of the highest grade.
