On Monday, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Mr. Piyush Goyal, asked the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to develop a connection with the startup environment. According to him, this will accelerate their growth and attract domestic investment in the businesses.

He made this statement while in Mumbai for the ceremony of the 400th company that was listed on the BSE SME platform.

The BSE SME platform now has 400 listed companies after the listing of eight additional businesses on the exchange's SME platform. To commemorate the important event, the minister also rang the ceremonial bell.

In March 2012, BSE Ltd established the BSE SME platform in accordance with the guidelines established by SEBI. It provides a welcoming atmosphere for business owners and investors, enabling the listing of SMEs from India's dispersed unorganised sector into a regulated and organised sector. The listed SMEs cross the threshold of the BSE SME Platform and venture into the financial sector in order to further their growth and development.

BSE SME helps small and medium-sized businesses raise equity capital for their expansion and growth, which enables them to mature into fully-fledged corporations. This would eventually allow such firms to migrate into the Main Board of the BSE in accordance with the current rules and regulations.
