The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has trained over 2,500 artisans across India in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme, marking a landmark initiative to integrate traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The programme aims to empower local artisans by enhancing their livelihoods, business capabilities and market access through digital adoption. A total of 2,543 beneficiaries from diverse trades participated in hands-on training sessions designed in simple language and tailored to local contexts.

Participants were introduced to widely used AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Indus, enabling them to apply AI in real-world business scenarios. The training focused on key areas, including branding, product design, packaging and digital marketing strategies, along with improving operational efficiency using AI-enabled solutions. Artisans also learned to generate product descriptions and visual content, helping them expand their reach to new markets. With participation from multiple states such as Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Bihar, the initiative aims to bridge the technology gap and enhance the global competitiveness of traditional products. The MSME Ministry emphasised that combining heritage skills with emerging technologies will foster sustainable and inclusive economic growth while transforming India’s artisanal sector into a digitally empowered ecosystem.
