Union Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, on April 14, 2025, highlighted the significant impact of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), stating that over Rs. 33,00,000 crore (US$ 383.28 billion) in collateral-free loans have been disbursed to 52 crore individuals over the past decade to promote entrepreneurship. Speaking at the valediction ceremony of the 77th batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers at the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur, Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary noted that the loans, ranging from Rs. 50,000 (US$ 580.74) to Rs. 20 lakh (US$ 23,229.74), have supported the launch of various new businesses. He further emphasised that 68% of the beneficiaries are women, underscoring their growing contribution to India's economic development through self-employment and small enterprises.
He also pointed out that the government's sustained focus on enhancing the infrastructure budget over the last 10 years has led to substantial progress across rural and urban regions. Addressing the new IRS officers, he said they will be critical in supporting Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. He underlined the importance of inclusive growth and policy-driven empowerment as key pillars of the country’s economic roadmap.
