Mukesh Ambani Tops Forbes India Rich List With US$ 92.7 Billion Net Worth

Mr. Mukesh Ambani exceled the Forbes Rich India List 2021 with a net worth totalling US$ 92.7 billion as of October 5, 2021. Adani Group Chairman Mr. Gautam Adani secured the second spot with a net worth of US$ 74.8 billion.

HCL founder Mr. Shiv Nadar, D Mart founder Mr. Radhakrishan Damani, Serum Insitute of India founder Mr. Cyrus Poonawalla secured the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively.

The report added the Adani Chairman nearly tripled his fortune in 2021 and is fast shutting the gap with Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mr. Mukesh Ambani. The RIL chairman, in contrast, recorded a modest 4.5% rise in his wealth to US$ 92.7 billion.

Forbes said the list had six new entrants in 2021, mostly from the thriving chemicals sector. These include Mr. Yogesh Kothari of Alkyl Chemicals, Mr. Deepak Mehta of Deepak Nitrite and Mr. Ashok Boob of the recently listed Clean Science and Technology.

In its report, Forbes added that the country's recovery from the more dangerous second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic regained global investor confidence. The benchmark Sensex rose 52% from a year ago. This accomplished in the nation's richer being richer. "...they are collectively worth a record US$ 775 billion after adding US$ 257 billion—a 50% gain—in the past 12 months," the report added.

Dr Lal Path Labs which recorded a massive surge in testing owing to the COVID-19 pandemic led to its shares doubling this year. Executive Chairman Mr. Arvind Lal, hence, managed to secure a first appearance on the 100 richest list.
