Union Minister for External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, stated that a multipolar world aligns with India’s strategic interests, enabling the country to maintain autonomy while strengthening global partnerships. Speaking at Chatham House in London, he highlighted how shifting global alliances benefit India, particularly under United States (US) foreign policy. He reaffirmed India’s stable relationship with the US. He cited the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) with the US, Australia, and Japan as an example of regional cooperation.
To address global currency shifts, he dismissed speculation that Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) nations aim to challenge the US dollar. On trade, he welcomed the US administration’s focus on technology and economic ties, mentioning Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal’s ongoing trade negotiations in Washington. Despite the complexity of negotiations, he also expressed optimism about the India-United Kingdom (UK) Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He reiterated India’s neutral stance regarding global conflicts, maintaining communication with Russia and Ukraine. Additionally, he noted progress in India-China relations since 2024, including reopening the Mount Kailash pilgrimage route.
