On Monday, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated that the National Education Policy was "a major effort to bring about a radical change in the country's education system" as he addressed the University of Mysore's centennial convocation ceremony.

In his virtual address, PM Mr. Modi spoke about NEP 2020 and mentioned how it was a 'huge project' that would lead to 'fundamental changes' in the education system of the country. “The National Education Policy is a major mission to bring fundamental changes in the education setup of our country, from pre-nursery to PhD,” he said. “We’re focusing on a multi-dimensional approach to make the capable youth of our country more competitive. We’re trying to make them flexible and adaptable for changing nature of jobs,” he added.

The Prime Minister also noted how, on the one hand, the NEP is strengthening the education sector's future while, on the other, inspiring young people as well. He also stated how the gross enrolment of girls was higher than that of boys at every level of education. The presence of girls has increased also in higher education, and in innovation and technology, stated PM Mr. Modi.

PM Mr. Modi also stated how, on average, one new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has been set up by his government over the last six years. One of these new IITs, was opened in Dharwad, which is in Karnataka, just like the University of Mysore.

He said that seven new IIMs were opened in just six years for the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), compared to just 13 prior to 2014.

He stated that of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), while there were only seven AIIMS in service in the last six decades, since 2014, almost twice the number 15 is either in service or in the process of being established.
