National Mission for Clean Ganga approves 14 projects worth Rs. 1,145 crore (US$ 140 million)

According to a statement released on Saturday, the National Mission for Clean Ganga's (NMCG) executive committee has authorised 14 projects totaling Rs. 1,145 crore (US$ 140 million) in the areas of biodiversity preservation, industrial pollution reduction, and sewage management. The projects were accepted at the 45th meeting of the executive committee, which was presided over by Mr. G Asok Kumar, Director General, NMCG.

According to the statement, there are eight initiatives involving the management of sewage in the five states that make up the main stem of the Ganga River: Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

Four projects totaling Rs. 308.09 crore (US$ 37.67 million) for other work related to the management of sewage were approved in Uttar Pradesh, including the tapping of the Assi drain in Varanasi.

The projects were approved with the goal of eliminating all untreated effluent from the three drains, Assi, Sanme ghat, and Nakhha.
