Network participants are being encouraged to pursue "profit through volumes" as ONDC announces the opening of B2B trade

Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) announces the introduction of business-to-business (B2B) commerce and requests that network participants pursue "profit through volumes”. Two start-ups that have since joined the network, Rapidor and Signcatch, have completed around 160 test transactions in the previous week.

According to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Mr. T Koshy, the possibilities in business-to-business (B2B) are much more as there are fewer established platforms in the space, compared to business-to-customer (B2C). The network began beta testing in September after moving from alpha testing in a few places in April of last year. In the past few months, it has increased the stakes to bring consumers and sellers onto the network with a variety of incentive programmes and discounts.

As per a top commerce ministry official, people have been shocked that the Indian government is constructing an open, interoperable trade network without any sort of financial gain in mind at international fora. He further stated that the participants of course must consider profit, but the margins should be such that even small stores and buyers can participate.
