NHAI to Install Retrofit Emission Control Devices on 25 DG Sets at Dwarka Expressway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken the initiative to install Retrofit Emission Control Devices (RECDs) on 25 Diesel Generator (DG) sets deployed at the 8.7 km long Package-IV of the Dwarka Expressway, which connects Basai to the Kherki Dhaula/Delhi-Gurugram Expressway cloverleaf intersection. The initiative is being implemented in compliance with directions of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on the regulation of DG sets in the National Capital Region (NCR), with the objective of mitigating air pollution, particularly during the winter season under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Dwarka Expressway Package IV falls within the Delhi NCR region, which experiences severe air pollution during winter, and CAQM has mandated regulation and emission control measures for DG sets operating in the area.

The RECDs will be installed on DG sets used for the Expressway lighting and other associated operations, with the implementation covering installation, testing and commissioning, along with comprehensive maintenance support. The installation is part of NHAI’s broader approach of integrating environmental protection into National Highway construction and operation, particularly for projects in the NCR, ensuring that DG sets required for essential highway-related operations are equipped with appropriate emission-control systems under the applicable regulatory framework. NHAI has also specified that GPS-tagged photographs of RECD installations at each DG set location will be maintained for verification and compliance purposes.
