NMCG sanctioned 43 projects worth US$ 248 million (Rs. 2,056 crores) in 2022: Centre

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) sanctioned 43 projects worth US$ 248 million (Rs. 2,056 crores) in 2022, and it amounts to a total of 406 projects sanctioned worth US$ 3.9 billion (Rs. 32,898 crores).

In the period of January-November 2022, 25 projects, comprising 41 sewerage treatment plants (STPs) for the creation of 910 minimal liquid discharge (MLD) treatment capacity and laying off 427 km sewer network, have been done with regard to the sewerage infrastructure. A total of 176 sewerage infrastructure projects have been sanctioned in the Ganga Basin.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti stated that various public outreach programmes have been organized by the NMCG, which includes Ganga Quest, Ganga Utsav 2022, etc. Approximately 1.73 people from India and from 180 other countries took part in the Ganga Quest 2022. The Ganga Utsav 2022, which has been dedicated to the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, declared Ganga as the national river.

It has been stated that around 75 events in Ganga and its tributary basin cities and towns will be organized in 2023, with three-day events in 15 major cities like Haridwar, Delhi, Kanpur, etc, and one-day events in 60 smaller towns and cities.

The promotion of ‘Arth Ganga’ was also in focus in 2022, under which several initiatives have been undertaken.
