According to a Monday announcement from the European telecom equipment manufacturers, Ericsson and Nokia will power Reliance Jio's 5G network. The largest carrier in the nation will receive 5G network equipment from the Swedish and Finnish suppliers thanks to multi-year supply contracts they have signed with Jio.

As part of the agreement, Nokia will provide base stations, high-capacity 5G radio antennae, and remote radio heads to support various frequency bands and self-organizing network software.

In order to offer services like machine-to-machine communication, network slicing, and ultra-low latency, Jio will create an independent 5G network that will communicate with its 4G network.

A radio access network, a core network, a transport network, and an interconnect network are the four separate components that make up a telecom network. While a non-standalone 5G network makes use of the current 4G infrastructure to provide faster speeds and reduced latency, a 5G standalone network needs a new core.
