Ola Electric has begun the delivery of its Ola Shakti 9.1 kWh residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bengaluru, marking a major milestone in the energy storage space in India. The energy storage system, powered by 4680 Bharat Cells, is the first residential battery energy storage system (BESS) designed and manufactured in the country, with the goal of providing smart, efficient, and reliable energy storage solutions for residential, agricultural, and commercial use. The company has begun the delivery of the 6 kW/9.1 kWh model and will continue to do so across the country in the coming months. Ola Electric has also received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for the 3 kW/5.2 kWh model of Shakti, in addition to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification received for the 9.1 kWh model on January 15, 2026. This certification will enable the mass production and subsequent sales of both models across the country.
This move comes as part of Ola Electric's strategy to expand from the electric mobility space into clean energy storage, using its own in-house developed technology for the Bharat Cell to promote innovation at a local level. The launch of the Shakti series is expected to address the growing need for reliable energy storage solutions in residential and commercial settings, especially in areas where the power grid is not always reliable. The company is expected to increase energy self-sufficiency and support the sustainability agenda through the provision of certified, high-capacity residential battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions.
