On National Startup Day, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will participate in a programme marking a decade of Startup India on 16 January

On National Startup Day, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will participate in a special programme marking ten years of the Startup India initiative on 16 January 2026 at 1 PM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, according to the Press Information Bureau. During the event, the Prime Minister will interact with members of India’s vibrant startup ecosystem, while select startup representatives will share insights from their entrepreneurial journeys and experiences of building and scaling enterprises in India. The interaction is expected to highlight the diversity and maturity of the startup landscape across sectors and regions. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering on this occasion, outlining the government’s vision for the next phase of India’s startup and innovation ecosystem and acknowledging the role of entrepreneurs in driving economic growth and job creation.
Launched on 16 January 2016 by the Prime Minister, Startup India was conceived as a transformative national programme to nurture innovation, promote entrepreneurship, and enable investment-driven growth, to make India a nation of job creators rather than job seekers. Over the past decade, the initiative has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s innovation and economic architecture, strengthening institutional mechanisms to support new ventures and creating an enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurship. The programme has expanded access to capital, mentorship, incubation support, and capacity-building initiatives for startups across sectors and stages of growth. As a result, India’s startup ecosystem has witnessed unprecedented expansion, with more than 2,00,000 recognised startups operating across the country. These enterprises have contributed significantly to employment generation, innovation-led economic growth, and the development of strong domestic value chains across diverse industries, reinforcing the role of startups as key drivers of India’s long-term economic transformation and competitiveness.
