ONDC’s aggressive expansion plans in play as its transactions have grown 500x and the merchants have grown 40x since the start of 2023

The transactions of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) have grown 500x and the merchants have grown by 40x since the start of 2023. In a statement, ONDC said that it has significantly worked towards adding more network participants, merchants, cities, and transactions (orders per day) to the network.

The alpha testing of ONDC was commenced with the real-world transactions in April, 2022 and the best testing was commenced with grocery and food delivery domains in Bengaluru at the end of September, 2022.

ONDC has informed that the number of retail merchants at ONDC have increased from 800+ in January, 2023 to 35,000+ currently. Moreover, the number of orders increased from 50 per day in January to 25,000+ orders per day in the last week. Furthermore, the geographic footprint of ONDC has also been expanded with the number of cities from 85 in January to 230+ currently.

In addition, it has also been informed that currently there are 600+ merchants in the domains of fashion, beauty & personal care, and electronics & appliances and have completed 1,300+ transactions since they have gone live. Majority of these orders were from the logistics providers like ShipRocket, Delhivery, Loadshare, etc.

ONDC’s network participants have increased from 26 in January, 2023 to 46 currently.
