One District One Product (ODOP) mission of Centre takes a giant technology boost

ODOP collaborated with AGNIi Mission, one of the Prime Minister's Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council's nine technology missions, to identify Indian innovative technologies that can play a transformative role in the end-to-end processing of Lakadong Turmeric, beginning with the use of payload drones (UAVs) to transport large quantities of turmeric.

ODOP is a game-changing step toward reaching a district's full potential, boosting economic growth, and furthering the Vocal for Local aim. Ms. Dawra praised the ODOP team's success in pitching Lakadong Turmeric's highest curcumin content as its Unique Selling Proposition, noting that the team had created market linkages for 500+ farmers from Self-Help Groups and Co-operative Societies from four villages in the West Jaintia Hills District.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has recognised Lakadong Turmeric as a product with good potential for growth and export for West Jaintia Hills as part of the One District, One Product (ODOP) Initiative.

It should be mentioned that the Lakadong Turmeric from West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, is swiftly becoming a game changer in the district's economy, with a curcumin content of 7-9% (in comparison to 3% or less in other kinds) and is one of the world's finest turmeric types. For Lakadong turmeric, the state of Meghalaya has sought for a Geographical Indication marking.
