According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Assam has finally implemented the ration card portability service, bringing the Centre's 'One Nation, One Ration Card' programme to a close. Assam is the 36th state/UT to implement ONORC. Since 2019, approximately 71 crore portable transactions have occurred, delivering foodgrains worth approximately Rs. 40,000 crore (US$ 5.11 billion) in food subsidy through portability.

A monthly average of about 3 crore portable transactions are currently being recorded, delivering subsidised NFSA and free PMGKAY foodgrains to beneficiaries with anywhere flexibility, it said. According to the ministry, approximately 64 crore portable transactions have been recorded during the COVID-19 period from April 2020 to date, delivering foodgrains equivalent to approximately Rs. 36,000 crore (US$ 4.60 billion) in food subsidy through portability.

To take full advantage of the ONORC plan, the government has also launched the 'MERA RATION' mobile application.
