According to Mercom India, India added 1.3 GW of open access solar power between January-June of this year, representing a 97% increase YoY. According to the report, open-access solar installations increased more than threefold to 680 megawatts (MW) for the quarter that ended in June, up from 210 MW last year.

In solar power through open access arrangement, a power producer builds a solar power plant to provide users with clean energy. The research states that as of June 2022, there was about 6.5 GW of cumulative installed solar capacity in the open access market, and as of June 30, 2022, there were over 2.8 GW of open-access solar project pipelines nationwide.

Installations increased, according to the research, as a result of increased focus on renewable purchase obligation (RPO) compliance and the RE100 objectives effort by commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses.
