According to Newsonair's report, the One Station One Product (OSOP) scheme serves as a growing platform for Indian Railways, promoting regional handicrafts and sustainable job opportunities for artists, weavers, and manufacturers. The OSOP initiative has grown from the original concept of having one product sold at least at every station in India, as of January 2026, to over 2,000 railway stations across the country. Each station has special sales areas where products specific to the region are sold and reach millions of passengers using railways every day. The Ministry of Railways has reported that over one hundred 1.32 lakh artists, weavers, and small producers have reaped the benefits of this initiative, which merges business and culture to turn railway stations into a lively hub of local entrepreneurship.
OSOP (One Station One Product) is a nationwide program that offers passengers travelling on the railways an opportunity to purchase local products from different parts of the country. These products include handcrafted items, handwoven textiles, food products indigenous to the area, pottery and bamboo items, and spices, all of which reflect the unique culture and heritage of each location. By providing a connection between these local products and an audience of daily rail passengers, this initiative will foster grassroots entrepreneurship and promote inclusive economic development while also providing financial stability to rural and traditional artisan communities. The Government's “Vocal for Local” initiative exemplifies this focus on supporting local economies and preserving traditional crafts, while also enhancing the overall experience of passengers as they travel throughout the rail network. As OSOP expands across India, it strengthens the role of Indian Railways in developing sustainable livelihood opportunities and building local value chains using India’s rich cultural heritage as a foundation for connecting the country’s transport infrastructure.
