Over 1 mn EVs registered, 1,742 charging stations operational: Gadkari

Parliament was informed on Wednesday that a total of 10,60,707 electric vehicles have been registered in India as of last week, with 1,742 public charging stations (PCS) in service. According to Mr. Nitin Gadkari Minister for Road Transport & Highways the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already approved the development of 39 such facilities. He also added that the developer has to install electric charging stations alongside national highways as part of the wayside amenities (WSAs).

In response to a second query, He stated that as of March 21, 2022, 816 fee toll plazas are operating on national highways across the country. Rajasthan (122), Uttar Pradesh (90), and Madhya Pradesh (77) have the most fee plazas. In response to another query, he stated that during the last three years, Rs. 20,268.45 crores (US$ 2.65 billion) and Rs. 1,189.94 crore (US$ 155.63 million) were released on projects sanctioned under the Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and the Economic Importance & Interstate Connectivity (EI&ISC) schemes, respectively.
