India is aggressively promoting electric mobility through its PM E-Drive initiative, reflecting strong policy momentum and rapid growth in EV adoption. As of February, over 28 lakh electric vehicles have been sold in the country, as announced by Union Heavy Industries Minister Mr. H.D. Kumaraswamy. While addressing the 3rd FICCI National Conference on Electric Vehicles in New Delhi, the statement noted that the number includes more than 20 lakh electric two-wheelers and nearly 3 lakh electric three-wheelers, which is a definite indication of widespread consumer acceptance and government support for green mobility. This increased adoption of electric vehicles is not only improving air quality in cities but also giving a boost to local manufacturers, supported by continued government initiatives.
The government is also working towards the rapid electrification of the public transport sector, with over 14,000 electric buses approved for major cities, which is a definite sign of the government's commitment to green mobility infrastructure. The statement further highlighted that the growing number of Free Trade Agreements between India and regions such as the European Union, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates is creating new export markets for electric vehicles and their components. The statement emphasised that electric mobility is more than just a climate change mission, it is an industrial and technological vision that aims to develop future-proof manufacturing capabilities. The continued increase in the adoption of electric vehicles is a definite sign of India’s transition to future-ready manufacturing, innovation-driven growth, and green mobility infrastructure that is in line with the country’s long-term economic and environmental objectives.
