The Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the e-Shram portal on August 26, 2021, to establish a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked with Aadhaar. The portal facilitates the registration of unorganised workers. It gives them a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration. As of March 3, 2025, over 30.68 crore unorganised workers have registered on e-Shram, with female workers comprising 53.68% of the total. Aligning with the Budget Announcement’s vision of making e-Shram a one-stop solution for unorganised workers to access social security schemes, the Ministry launched the e-Shram “One-Stop-Solution” on October 21, 2024, integrating multiple welfare schemes into a single platform.
Currently, 13 schemes from various ministries have been integrated into e-Shram, including Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). To improve accessibility, multilingual functionality was introduced on January 7, 2025, via the Bhashini platform, supporting 22 Indian languages. The e-Shram mobile app was launched on February 24, 2025, providing real-time access to welfare schemes. Awareness initiatives include periodic reviews with states and Union Territories, SMS campaigns, social media outreach, and integration with platforms like the National Career Service (NCS), Skill India Digital Portal, myScheme, and Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG). The Union Minister of State, Ms. Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, provided this information for Labour and Employment in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
