According to the UP Jal Shakti Ministry, Uttar Pradesh ranked fourth position in the country for delivering functional household tap connections (FHTC) as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal initiative of the Centre. Bihar leads the states with 1.59 crore tap water connections, followed by Maharashtra with 1.07 crore and Gujarat with 91 lakh connections to rural homes.
The UP Government has reinforced tap connections to more than 81 lakh rural residents. In the Bundelkhand region, more than 8.30 lakh FHTCs have been made available. This includes tap connections to 96,553 families in Mahoba, 1,41 lakh in Lalitpur, 1,56 lakh in Jhansi, 90,829 in Chitrakoot, 1,02 lakh in Hamirpur, 1,13 lakh in Jalaun, and 1,30 lakh in Banda. In the Vindhya region, more than 2.32 lakh families in Mirzapur and 1.15 lakh families in Sonbhadra now have access to functioning household tap connections. Due to the state government's efforts, more than five crore people in Uttar Pradesh now have access to clean drinking water from their home taps.
