Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said on November 19, 2025, that more than four crore accounts have been opened under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and deposits in these accounts have crossed Rs. 3,25,000 crore (US$ 36.72 billion). Speaking at the birth centenary celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Baba, he highlighted that the scheme, launched ten years ago for the education and welfare of girls, offers an interest rate of 8.2% which is among the highest for savings instruments dedicated to daughters. He said the strong participation reflects rising awareness and financial inclusion for girl-child welfare across the country. He also paid tribute to Sri Satya Sai Baba, noting that his teachings and humanitarian service continue to inspire lakhs of devotees globally.
Discussing initiatives for livestock welfare, he said that in Indian tradition, cows are considered symbols of life, prosperity, and compassion, and play an important role in the financial, nutritional, and social well-being of families. He recalled that under the National Gokul Mission, more than 480 cows had been distributed in Varanasi, and the practice of gifting the first calf to another family had helped the cattle population in the region grow to over 1,700. He said that the positive impact of cow protection can be seen in various parts of the country and even abroad, adding that such initiatives strengthen rural livelihoods and support cultural values rooted in compassion and sustainability.
