Packaging industry growing at 17%, can bring district level jobs: Experts

At the Asian Packaging Congress, Director of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Delhi, Professor Tanveer Alam stated that the global packaging industry is valued US$ 79 billion and is expanding at a rate of 15-17%. To create jobs at the district level, he advocated for the development of domestic players and the establishment of the packaging industry in each district along the lines of the "one district, one product" concept. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently inked with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and this product has already been marketed in 15 districts throughout the state.
For each product, different types of packaging such as glass, metal, paper, and others are used. In order to boost farmers' revenue and reduce farm production losses, the packaging sector can also aid in the marketing of agricultural products.
