On Wednesday, the Parliament has approved a bill to establish a Commission to regulate and enforce uniform education standards for allied and healthcare professionals, with the Lok Sabha voting in favour of the bill by voice vote. The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill, 2021, aims to create a body that will regulate and maintain educational and service standards.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, and Earth Science, Dr. Harsh Vardhan stated that the law aims to meet the sector's long-standing demands and increase professional employment opportunities.
He said, “Paramedics and other allied healthcare workers are vital members of the medical profession, and their contributions are equal to, if not greater than, that of physicians. The number of allied practitioners is significant, and the bill aims to regulate the field by elevating their rank.”
The Rajya Sabha had already passed the bill last week.
