Passenger vehicle wholesales surge 92% in September on robust festive demand

Passenger car wholesales in India jumped 92% to 307,389 units last month, compared to the same month previous year, according to the auto industry group Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Passenger vehicle (PV) deployments from factories to dealerships were 160,212 units in September 2021.

According to the latest figures from the SIAM, two-wheeler sales increased 13% to 1,735,199 units in September 2021, up from 1,537,604 vehicles in September 2021. Motorcycle sales increased 18% to 1,114,667 units in September 2021, compared to 948,161 units in September 2021.

Scooter sales increased by 9% to 572,919 units, up from 527,779 cars a year ago. PV sales climbed by 38% to 1,026,309 units in the September quarter, compared to 741,442 units in the same period last year. Similarly, total two-wheeler sales increased 13% to 4,673,931 units, up from 4,136,484 units in the previous fiscal's September quarter. Total commercial vehicle sales increased by 39% to 231,880 units, up from 166,251 units the previous year. Total sales across all categories increased to 6,052,628 units, up from 5,115,112 units in the previous year.
