PLI Scheme Achieves Major Milestones with Rs. 35,657 Crore (US$ 4.3 billion) Investment and Rs. 2,321.94 Crore (US$ 280 million) Incentives Disbursed

The Production Linked Incentives Auto Scheme (PLI Auto) has marked significant progress in enhancing India's hi-tech automotive manufacturing, especially in the Advanced Automotive Technology segment. Launched with a total budgetary outlay of Rs. 25,938 crore (US$ 3.24 billion) for the performance period from FY24 to FY28, the scheme aims at enhancing domestic manufacturing and supporting the Government's AtmaNirbhar Bharat vision. In its first performance year an amount of Rs. 322 crore (US$ 40 million) was disbursed to four approved applicants, while Rs. 1,999.94 crore (US$ 250 million) has been released to five approved applicants for FY25. The incentives provided under the scheme have supported the sale of 13,61,488 units of electric vehicles, including 10,42,172 e-2Ws, 2,38,385 e-3Ws, 79,540 e-4Ws, and 1,391 e-buses, further reinforcing India's transition towards sustainable mobility. For Domestic Value Addition, certification has been issued for 94 variants of vehicles under the Champion OEM category and 37 variants under the Component Champion category, demonstrating enhanced local value creation and integration of the supply chain.
Cumulative investment under the PLI Auto scheme has reached Rs. 35,657 crore (US$ 4.3 billion), with determined sales of Rs. 32,879 crore (US$ 4.10 billion) and employment generation of 48,974 jobs. Incentive disbursement stands at Rs. 2,321.94 crore (US$ 290 million), reflecting robust industry uptake. Key OEMs such as Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, TVS Motor, and Ola Electric, along with a host of component manufacturers, have benefited from the scheme, thus catalysing electric mobility ecosystem growth and giving a fillip to the manufacturing competitiveness in India.
