The Ministry proposes to create 22 Greenfield Expressways, 23 other significant infrastructure projects & other highway projects, and 35 Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) as part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), Bharatmala Pariyojana and other schemes of the Ministry. The ambitious programme, launched by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 13, 2021, aims to break down departmental silos and bring in more holistic and integrated planning and execution of projects, lowering logistics costs and resulting in massive economic gains for consumers, farmers, youth, and business owners.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, the Ambala-Kotputli Expressway, the Amritsar-Bhatinda-Jamnagar Expressway, the Raipur-VZG Expressway, the Hyderabad-VZG Expressway, the UER II, the Chennai-Salem Expressway and Chittor-Thatchur Expressway are under construction stage. Construction of the Zojila Tunnel (Ladakh), roads connecting Krishnapatnam Port (Andhra Pradesh), a major bridge over Middle Strait Creek (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), 2-laning of Lalpul-Manmao changing road (Arunachal Pradesh), 6-lane bridge over Ganga bridge at Phaphamau (UP), and 4-lane bridge over Brahmaputra between Dhubri-Phulbari (Meghalaya) are some of the major key infrastructure projects currently under construction.
The Ministry has kept up with the work of implementing the 35 MMLP projects earmarked for development under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase I through its implementing agencies NHAI/NHLML and NHIDCL. In addition, bids are being accepted for three MMLPs: MMLP Nagpur: It is being constructed at Sindi Village in collaboration with JNPT; MMLP Chennai: It is being developed at Mappedu in collaboration with the Chennai Port Trust and the Tamil Nadu Government's Industrial Development Corporation, SIPCOT; and MMLP Bengaluru: It is being constructed in collaboration with the Karnataka government's infrastructure agency, Karnataka Industrial Area of Development (KIADB).
