Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will virtually launch the 'PM Vishwakarma Scheme' on September 17 from Delhi on 'Vishwakarma Day,' which will be attended by 70 ministers from 70 various sites around the country.
The scheme was addressed by Prime Minister Mr. Modi during his Independence Day speech. The project was approved by the Union cabinet.
Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah will attend the event from Ahmedabad, while Defence Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh will attend from Lucknow. Union Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari will be in Nagpur, Ms. Smriti Irani in Jhansi, Mr. Bhupender Yadav in Jaipur, and Mr. S Jaishankar in Thiruvananthapuram. Similarly, additional ministers have been delegated to join the programme, mostly in their home states.
According to the plan, US$ 1.56 billion (Rs. 13,000 crore) will be invested over the next five years in the skill development of traditional artisans, including weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, and barbers who are primarily from OBC communities.
The initiative seeks to improve the quality, scalability, and reach of artisans and crafts people’s products and services and integrate them into the domestic and global value chains. As a result, these workers will become more economically empowered, particularly those from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Communities, women, transgender people, and other underprivileged groups in society.
