On Vishwakarma Jayanti, according to MSME Minister Mr. Narayan Rane, the central government would introduce the new Vishwakarma Yojana in an effort to support the artisans and craftsmen associated with traditional industries. According to him, "this programme will empower and support the traditional industries falling under the MSME sector." This year, Vishwakarma Jayanti falls on September 17.
"In the days to come, we will launch a scheme on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, benefiting individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship, particularly from the OBC community," Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated in his speech on Independence Day. The Vishwakarma Yojana, which will launch with an allocation of roughly Rs. 13,000-15,000 crore (US$ 1.56-1.80 billion) will empower weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, barbers, and other such families.
In order to help traditional craftsmen and crafters increase the quality, scope, and reach of their products and integrate them into the MSME value chain, the scheme was announced in this year's budget.
In her budget speech, Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman noted that the scheme's components would also include access to advanced skill training, knowledge of contemporary digital techniques, familiarity with effective green technologies, brand promotion, connections to local and international markets, digital payments, and social security. By connecting these people with their needs, the industrial world can improve productivity. They can also get training and skills from the industry.
Importantly, the government developed an e-commerce web Indiahandmade.com in April of this year to enable craftsmen and weavers to sell their handloom and handicraft products straight to customers without any middlemen. According to a statement from the textile ministry, the platform would sell goods made by more than 27 million handicraft artists and 35 lakh handloom weavers directly to customers. The website offers a variety of handcrafted goods manufactured by talented craftsmen, including clothes, home decor, jewellery, and accessories.
