Power ministry, DRDO ink pact to install early warning systems for power stations

The Ministry of Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for implementing an Early Warning System (EWS) for vulnerable hydro projects or power stations, especially in the hilly areas. They plan to jointly work towards developing preventive measures for natural disasters like avalanches, landslides and more.
EWS would be a comprehensive framework to predict, forecast, monitor, disaster risk management, and communication to enable prompt actions to mitigate hazardous events. Moreover, the Ministry of Power has partnered with other institutions like the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the National Geophysical Research Institute, the Indian Meteorological Department, the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
