The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, dedicated to the nation the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, and asked the nation to follow the idea of 'Think Big, Dream Big, Act Big'.
'Bharat Mandalam' is the name given to the complex. At the grand inauguration event, the Prime Minister also introduced the G-20 coin and stamp and took part in the naming of the Convention Centre. The new Convention Complex, built as a national project at a cost of approximately US$ 329.17 million (Rs 2,700 crore), will help showcase and promote India as a global economic destination. Prime Minister performed puja at the Complex and honoured the Shramjeevis involved in the construction of the International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Mr. Piyush Goyal, stated that Prime Minister Modi has altered the way the country thinks and inspired us to advance as a nation towards the objective of being a developed nation. He emphasised the importance of Shramjeevis and architects in the Complex's construction. He highlighted the need of establishing a world-class convention and exposition centre in the country in order to showcase the country to the rest of the world. He stated that the government's many initiatives to boost business and assure the nation's progress are being reinforced by the construction of modern infrastructure.
According to Mr. Piyush Goyal, the name Bharat Mandapam is derived from Lord Basaveshwara's concept of Anubhav Mandapam, which was a pavilion for public festivities. This complex will be open to the public and will have all of the amenities necessary to assist the country in its aim of becoming a developed and contemporary nation.
The International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) project has been created as India's largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. The Convention Centre is being built as the centrepiece of the Pragati Maidan complex. It is a huge architectural masterpiece built to host large-scale international exhibits, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other prominent events. Its magnificent multi-purpose hall and plenary hall have a combined seating capacity of 7,000 people, which is greater than the seating capacity of Australia's famous Sydney Opera House. Its spectacular Amphitheatre has seating for 3,000 people.
The building's shape is derived from the Shankha (conch shell), and various walls and facades of the Convention Centre depict several elements of India's traditional art and culture, including 'Surya Shakti' highlighting India's efforts in harnessing solar energy, 'Zero to ISRO' celebrating our achievements in space, Pancha Mahabhuta signifying the universal foundation's building blocks - Aakash (Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire). The Convention Centre is also adorned with paintings and tribal art forms from various parts of the country.
