Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has set two major goals: making India the third-largest economy and achieving full development by 2047, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Mr. Amit Shah stated. Highlighting the dairy sector's role in economic growth, rural development, and nutrition, he emphasized that India’s agricultural system relies on small farmers, making dairy a crucial industry. Speaking at a press conference, he noted the progress made in farming over the past decade, with cooperatives strengthening the supply chain from farms to factories. He launched several initiatives, including National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Sustain Plus projects, biogas programs, and a guide on circularity in dairy urging NDDB and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to roll out pilot schemes in select districts within six months.
He stressed the importance of gas production models for 250 district milk-producing associations, ensuring every district with a milk producers’ association has a biogas project. He also called for an integrated animal feed network to improve livestock health and milk productivity, benefiting private and cooperative dairy farmers. Micro ATMs in rural dairies, successfully implemented in Gujarat, have increased cooperative sector deposits by Rs. 7,700 crore (US$ 882.10 million), a model that NABARD should expand nationwide. To achieve 100% circular economic growth, he urged cooperation among cooperatives, ensuring all dairy machinery is manufactured in India. He proposed that NDDB and district milk unions jointly invest in dairy equipment production, ensuring profits benefit cooperatives and strengthen India’s self-reliance in the sector.
