Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announces that IIM Bangalore will establish its campus in Indonesia

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, during his visit to Indonesia on July 7, 2026, announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) will establish its first international campus at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang, Indonesia. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the internationalisation of India's higher education ecosystem and builds on the overseas expansion of premier Indian institutions such as IIM Ahmedabad in Dubai, IIT Delhi in Abu Dhabi and IIT Madras in Zanzibar. The proposed campus reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Indonesia while advancing the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages leading Indian institutions to establish a global presence and expand access to world-class education.

The Indonesia campus will serve as a regional hub for quality management education, primarily catering to Indonesian students while also attracting learners from across Southeast Asia. Its curriculum will focus on five future-oriented domains- Global Supply Chains, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Climate and Sustainability, and Healthcare Management to prepare next-generation business leaders. The programmes will be rolled out in two phases, beginning with executive education for senior professionals, followed by degree-granting management programmes after the successful completion of the initial phase. The initiative will be implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama (PT IGT), the managing entity of the Singhasari SEZ. Students will also benefit from academic immersion visits to the Bengaluru campus, strengthening exposure to India's innovation ecosystem, industry and entrepreneurial landscape while reinforcing India's role as a trusted global knowledge partner and preferred education destination for the Global South.
