Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi Concludes Historic Slovakia Visit; Heads to France for G7 Summit

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on Tuesday concluded his landmark visit to Slovakia, describing the trip as “historic and productive” and expressing confidence that its outcomes would significantly strengthen bilateral ties. In a special diplomatic gesture, Slovak Prime Minister Mr. Robert Fico personally bid farewell to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi at the end of the visit, reflecting the warmth in relations between the two countries. Taking to X, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi thanked the Slovak government and its people for their hospitality and warm reception. During the visit, Slovak President Mr. Peter Pellegrini conferred Slovakia’s highest civilian honour, The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), on Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The recognition marked the 33rd international honour awarded to the Indian Prime Minister by a foreign nation. The visit also provided an opportunity for both sides to review bilateral cooperation and chart a roadmap for expanding collaboration across strategic sectors.

A series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed following delegation-level talks between the two leaders in Bratislava. The agreements focus on strengthening cooperation in education, research, talent mobility, technology and cultural exchanges. A key MoU on labour migration aims to facilitate safe, orderly and legal movement of workers while improving coordination between regulatory authorities in both countries. India and Slovakia also agreed to strengthen the India-Slovakia Joint Economic Committee (JEC) to identify high-potential areas of economic cooperation. Both sides pledged to expand trade and investment ties across sectors including automotive manufacturing, electronics and advanced technologies, leveraging Slovakia’s industrial capabilities and India’s innovation-driven growth. Following the successful conclusion of the visit, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi departed for France to participate in the G7 Summit.
